The Resurrection Changes Everything

My heart overflows today with gratitude to Christ for the Cross. We were blessed this morning to be in a church that truly worshipped Jesus on this day...it was wonderful!! The pastor talked about how the resurrection changes us. Amen!!! I was just talking to Matt on the ride to my mom's about how the resurrection of Jesus is the most glorious part of our faith. Without it, there would be no hope. It was so sweet to worship with other believers and CELEBRATE what Christ has done.

Again, I was so conflicted about how to truly celebrate this with my children. I don't think that I am opposed to "pretending" with them about things, I just think I'm opposed to pretending on the two most glorious days that we celebrate in the Christian faith. I so want my boys to think of Jesus at Christmas and Easter...I want it to be all the more exciting because we have something real to celebrate. Sure, they get baskets and we hunt eggs, but I so badly want them to be able to reflect on how we celebrate one day and know that their mom and dad love Jesus. I pray that they do.

Last year I blogged about a song that I love at Easter, and this year I want to write the words to another that brings joy to my soul.

"Thank you for the CROSS Lord. Thank you for the nail-pierced hands.

Bearing all my sin and shame, in love you came, and gave amazing grace.

Thank you for this love, Lord. Thank you for the price you paid.

Washed me in your cleansing flow, now all I know is your forgiveness and embrace!"

"Worthy is the Lamb!! Seated on the Throne.

Crown Him now with many crowns! He reigns victorious!!

High and lifted up, Jesus Son of God.

The darling of Heaven crucified...Worthy is the Lamb!

Worthy is the Lamb!"

John and I changed things up a bit this year because I have had the same conflict. Here is what we did and we really enjoyed it - you can take it or leave it.
We decided that we would celebrate the "fun" cultural aspects of Easter on Saturday before Easter. Our city has an annual Easter egg hunt on that Sat. so yesterday morning (Sat) when the kids woke up we had their Easter gifts out. We went to the hunt and spent the early day at the park as a family. Then we came home and dyed eggs and prepared resurrection rolls and put them in fridge for Easter morning. So when we woke up Easter we had Resurrection rolls and our dyed eggs and fruit for a celebration breakfast and talked about what the day symbolized. Then the day was not focused on waking up to see what the Easter bunny brought them to waking up excited to celebrate the resurrection.
Our boys know the Easter bunny is a fun pretend so it didn't matter to them that they got their baskets the day before. We loved it.
We are considering using Christmas morning as a time our family volunteers in the community rather than opening presents. We haven't decided yet how to do Christmas but the conflict is there as well.
Love you friend and wish we could have a coffee and chat it out :)

I absolutely love that song. We sing it a church and it is just amazing. Such a moving and beautiful message. :)
